3 - Economic development : The rhetoric of civil society has established itself in the political and scientific debate since the 1980s, articulated around the idea that civil society would have a major role to play in the democratization and economic development of African countries.

4 - Political influence : Members of the African parliament from civil society have influenced the new conceptualization of security focused no longer on the State but on people, with the idea that the security of people can guarantee the sustainable security of States .

These implications show that civil society is not only a supporting actor, but a driver of change and an essential partner in building a democratic and peaceful society in Africa.

In West Africa, for example, several civil society organizations have played a decisive role in conflict prevention and peacebuilding. Among them :

West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) : Led by Thelma Ekiyor, this organization focuses on building the capacity of civil society actors and has played a key role in promoting peace and security in the region.
Gorée Institute : Based in Senegal, the Gorée Institute works to eliminate the causes and consequences of conflicts in West Africa through research, reflection and field interventions.
PREGESCO : This network brings together more than 200 associations and organizations in several African countries, and it is involved in the prevention and management of conflicts in the region.

These organizations, among others, contribute to creating a more stable and peaceful environment in West Africa by engaging in local peacebuilding initiatives, fostering reconciliation processes and advocating adherence to peace agreements. . They also play an important role in peace education and raising citizens' awareness of the terms of peace agreements.
